To develop and instruct medium-risk level outdoor activities in a variety of settings and environments
  • Good level of risk management knowledge and application 
  • May also manage others at outdoor leadership level 
  • Contribute to development of organisational safety management system
  • Can run activities at unfamiliar sites
  • Could work as a sole contractor or under indirect supervision in a range of outdoor activities 
  • Also potentially no supervision - this person could well be a sole contractor and will be employed due to their level of autonomy and ability to work potentially unsupervised in a variety of environments
  • Good level of personal skills in the discipline they will be instructing/guiding 
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Group management skills
  • The Outdoor Pre-Hospital Emergency Care qualification
  • Outdoor leadership qualifications should be completed before moving onto this level 
  • Depending on the pathway some will go out and work directly towards this level without going through outdoor leadership
  • New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association Level 1 qualification
  • Senior instructor
  • Senior river guide 
  • New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association Senior Instructor

$120-250 per day or $15-30 per hour
